College Goal Sunday
  • What is College Goal Sunday?
  • College Goal Sunday is Not
  • College Goal Sunday is a nation-wide outreach
    initiative, funded by the Lumina Foundation,
    which seeks to provide information about and
    access to Federal Financial Aid to students of
    underserved and underrepresented populations.

College Goal Sunday History
  • College Goal Sunday began in Indiana in 1989
    as a joint project of the Indiana Student
    Financial Aid Association (ISFAA) and the State
    Student Assistance Commission of Indiana (SSACI),
    with funding from Lilly Endowment, Inc. The
    program aided families in breaking what was
    perceived as one of the biggest barriers to
    higher education, the financial aid process.
    College Goal Sunday has since expanded and is now
    a Nation-wide
  • initiative. College Goal Sunday Florida is
    coordinated by ENLACE Florida at USF.

Responsibilities
  • Secure Location and Visit Your Location
  • Solicit Volunteers (w/ENLACE FL assistance)
  • Prepare Budget
  • Connect with School Districts or Target Schools
  • Collect Registration, Scholarship and Survey
    Information

CGS Mini Grants
  • Each site may receive a mini-grant of up to 1200
  • The mini-grants may be used for most expenses
    associated with CGS
  • Each site must determine how to utilize funds
  • Sites are encouraged to use the majority of their
    mini-grant dollars for scholarships to CGS
    attendees

Organizing Your CGS Event
  • Set Measurable Goals and Objectives
  • Host a volunteer training event prior to CGS
  • Assign Volunteer Duties Before the Event
  • Recruit Bilingual Volunteers
  • Provide Lunch for Volunteers
  • Allow for a Question and Answer Period
  • Create Process for Pre-Registration
  • Start on Time

Understanding Financial Aid
  • Financial Aid Professionals will be Assigned to
    Each Site
  • Site Coordinators and Volunteers Do Not Need to
    be Financial Aid Experts
  • Resources are Available to assist Coordinators
    and Volunteers on website (FAFSA training, etc)
  • Review Current Years FAFSA

CGS Rules, Tips and Pointers
  • All Volunteers Must Wear the College Goal Sunday
    Logo Shirt
  • Volunteers Represent CGS and no Other
    Organization for the Duration of the Event
  • Supplemental Material May Be Provided, but
    Attendees Must Get Additional Materials for
    Themselves
  • Refreshments Help Keep Attendees Happy
  • Many Families Are Interested in the
  • Scholarship/s

THE GOAL
  • The ULTIMATE GOAL is for students to COMPLETE and
    SUBMIT the FAFSA form electronically
  • FAFSA forms may be printed out, completed, and
    mailed if computers or internet become
    unavailable.
