  forced to be more sensitive towards different
  institutional environments
• Differences in institutional environments matters
  more not less in an increasingly global world

• Why do locations differ and what are the
  implications for business strategies?
• More fine-grained understanding of the influence
  of the institutional environment
• Protection of knowledge in countries with weak
  IPR-protection
• Diversified structures that are value-destroying
  in some countries are value-enhancing in others

Organization of the MNC

• Not top-down or bottom-up but from the middle
  and out
• Subsidiaries are becoming more important as
  knowledge providers (e.g. Centres of Excellence)
• Power issues (rent-seeking behavior of
  subsidiaries)
• Coordination of internal MNC flows of products,
  services and knowledge
