Who was de Klerk?

• De Klerk was the leader of the South African
  Government, and the National Party, from
  1989-1997. He is seen as the ender of the
  apartheid policy in South Africa, thereby freeing
  all the black Afrikaans, Nelson Mandela, and
  releasing the ban on the ANC (African National
  Congress).

De Klerks Childhood

• De Klerk was born in Johannesburg, South Africa,
  into a White-Dutch Family. His familys values
  were all based on the ones throughout South
  Africa, including the Apartheid. Many of de
  Klerks family was already involved in the
  government, which gave him an early start into
  his career. He went through the regular school
  system as we do today, and then graduated from a
  university with a degree in law.

Which Political Party Was de Klerk a part of?

• De Klerk was the president and leader of the
  national party. He was elected into office, and
  then used his power to completely abolish the
  Apartheid Policy in South Africa.

What part did the National Party play in the
History of the Apartheid?

• This Party is also ironically the party that
  started the Apartheid, and even more ironically
  the one that killed it.

What did de Klerk do when he was elected
President in 1989?

• De Klerk, in his first year of presidency,
  abolished the apartheid, releasing many bans on
  Black Organizations, such as the ANC, released
  Nelson Mandela from prison, and Let the Black
  Afrikaans walk about the City Streets they had
  inhabited so long ago.

Why Was He Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993?

• He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for freeing
  Afrikaans and ending racial separation in South
  Africa. He Shares the prize with Nelson Mandela,
  who was his successor in presidency.
