Title: HallD Collaboration Issues

1
Hall-D Collaboration Issues
  • George Lolos
  • University of Regina
  • May 2004

2
MOUs
  • Template
  • Hardware/Software
  • Theoretical
  • Contributions to Collaboration affairs
  • On current RD and Long Term Commitments
  • Hall-D membership requires an approved MOU

3
Templates
  • CMU, Ohio, IU and UofR have posted sample MOUs
  • Not all sections are applicable to all
    institutions and/or groups
  • Emphasis on commitments and deliverables
  • GlueX not necessarily the sole research effort
but clearly the main effort of group

4
Hardware/Software
  • RD and post-RD commitments
  • Manpower with realistic fractions of research
    time dedicated to GlueX
  • Timelines to completion of tasks assuming funding
    is available

5
Theoretical
  • Its difficult to put theoretical deliverables
into the same mold as hardware/software
  • Research (e.g. publications, students, workshops)
in the physics of confinement, exotic hybrids and
related topics that are of direct interest to
    GlueX
  • Research effort that is sustained and based on
    GlueX physics
  • Contributions to PWA related input is of
    particular value and importance

6
Contributions to The Collaboration
  • Active participation in meetings, conference
    calls and workshops
  • Presentations to conferences and public domain
  • Participation in respective working groups
  • Election to CB and other voting bodies within the
    Hall-D Collaboration
  • General good citizenship within Hall-D

7
RD and Post-RD
  • RD phase is approaching the end for many tasks
  • We need to identify remaining RD and the time
    frames for their completion
  • Assumption of commitments with time lines for
completion of Hall-D to data taking
  • Important input into the Collaborations input to
    the Lehman Review process
  • Will help us identify tasks that need new
    manpower in GlueX

8
MOU Membership
  • Membership in Hall-D means firm commitments
    secured by MOUs
  • MOUs are two way commitments of two parties
supporting each other between an institution and
    Hall-D/GlueX
  • Individual MOUs are the first step toward a
    contract with JLab/DOE
  • Will constitute the building blocks of the final
    Hall-D/GlueX MOU with JLab/DOE

9
Conclusions
  • With CD-0 approved, theres no excuse for
uncommitted manpower within groups already in
    Hall-D
  • Group leaders should be factual in their manpower
lists so we all have a real basis of effective
    manpower
  • MOUs with well defined commitments and
expectations constitute our own basis for
progression to the next phases of Hall-D/GlueX
  • Its critically important to identify tasks for
    new member groups
