TARDIES
  • Students who are tardy disrupt the learning
environment for those that are in class.
  • Students who are on time receive more class
    instruction time.
  • Students that are unsupervised can cause
vandalism and may not be in a safe environment.
  • We want to lower tardies by giving positives to
    students who are on time.
  • We give five minutes early to lunch passes to
whole classes that are on time.
  • Students can participate in activities if they
    are on time.

3
Rationale
  • Hunter Jr. High had a tardy problem. This was
the first issue we really wanted to work on. In
2003-2004, we had over 20,766 tardies for the
year. For the 2004-05 year, our first as part of
UBI, we cut the total number to 11,207, a
reduction of nearly 50. We had 9,959 tardies
    for the 2005-06 year.

4
DATA INDICATORS
  • We surveyed our staff so that we had faculty buy
in on what we should be working on.
  • We looked at the past years data and could see
that our tardy problem was significant.

5
Trends and Changes in Data Indicators after
Intervention
  • We had 20,766 tardies the year before be began
    doing positive supports.
  • We are able to track our data monthly to see how
    we are doing.
  • We can review data by year and monthly. This is
a good way to see what is working and what isnt.

6
Implementation Description
  • We monitor tardies each month.
  • We worked with the entire faculty so there were
consistencies in what a tardy was.
  • We give Hawk Awards to reward students.
  • We give 5 minute early to lunch passes to entire
classes when they are all on time.
  • The intervention is still working but we have had
difficulty getting data this year. Lack of data
has made it difficult to reward our students. We
will be working on this again next year.

7
Final Data
8
Tardies for Multiple Years
  • We have 1120 students this year. Last year, we
had 1050. We have overall less tardies this
    year.

9
Plans for Adjustments
  • Offer more rewards for students who are on time
    to class.
  • Offer more Hawk Awards for students who are on
    time.
  • We are really struggling with data and this has
been a detriment to our effectiveness this year.
  • Get all teachers to follow our tardy policy.
  • Do more hall sweeps.
