    votes
  • None came from the southern states.
  • Capital of the Union was in Washington, DC

  • Elected president of the Confederacy.
  • Gave many government positions to his friends and
    family members even though they were incompetent
    of doing the job.
  • Did not delegate responsibilities well.
  • Capital of Confederacy was in Richmond, VA

Fort Sumter
  • Civil War begins with Fort Sumter being fired
    upon by the Confederate soldiers April 12, 1861
  • After 2 days of fighting the North surrenders to
    the South
  • No one was killed during the battle but one
    soldier died when a cannon backfired during the
    surrendering ceremonies.
  • THIS WILL MARK THE BEGINNING OF THE CIVIL WAR

General George B. McClellan
  • The 1st Battle of Bull Run didnt go so good for
    the Union so Lincoln fired General McDowell and
    George B. McClellan was appointed as the new
    General of the eastern section of the Union Army.

  • Battle took place March 8-9, 1862 in Hampton
    Road, VA
  • The ships bounced shells off of each other for 2
    hours while people stood on shore and watched.
  • It ended in a draw with neither side winning.
    The North however was able to keep the South from
    getting past to get supplies from their allies.
  • This battle was significant because it signaled
    the end of wooden ships in navies all over the
    world.

    hours. When they ran out of ammunition, they
    threw rocks to keep the North from advancing.

  • January 1, 1863 Lincoln proclaimed the
    emancipation of all slaves living in the states
    that seceded from the Union.

  • After the win at Antietam, McClellan didnt
    pursue the South.
  • Lincoln was so upset with how cautious McClellan
    was he replaced him with General Ambrose Burnside.
