Student Citizens Making a Difference
  • As a minor in the State of Delaware you cannot
    legally vote until the age of 18, however that
    does not mean you cannot make a difference in
    your life. With politics in order to get things
    done you must draw attention to a issue. The
    perfect forum for student citizens is the local
    newspaper.

Public Issue
  • 1st Step Identify a public issue that affects
    your life. (ex. School Uniforms, Driving Age,
    School Cell Phone Policy)
  • 2nd Step Write down why this public issue
    affects you.
  • 3rd Step Write what you think should be done to
    change the current policy.

Notes
  • How you the citizens are represented in your
    State Government.
  • Apportioned- to be divided among districts based
    on equal representation.
  • The state legislators have changed from being
    farmers and businessmen when this state was
    established to being full time lawmakers now.

How the State Makes Money
  • State Revenue Income to the state.
  • Bonds certificates that people buy from the
    government. This is essentially a loan from the
    people that the govt. agrees to pay back with
    interest after a certain period of time.
  • Federal Funds
  • Categorical Grants given for specific purposes
    such as job training programs or highway
    construction. These are strings attached
  • Block Grants are given to the state to use on
    what they see fit.
