  • Main Idea
  • While Kennedy had trouble getting his ideas for a
    New Frontier passed, several goals were achieved.

The Promise of Progress
  • Kennedy set out to transform his new vision which
    he called the NEW FRONTIER
  • Called for Americans to be new pioneers and
    explore science and space
  • Kennedy had difficulty turning his vision into
    reality
  • Faced a conservative coalition
  • Kennedy lacked popular mandate because he won by
    a slim margin

Stimulating the Economy
  • Unemployment hovered around 6 which was one of
    the highest since WWII
  • Pushed for deficit spending
  • Department of Defense received a 20 budget
    increase for nuclear missiles
  • Increase minimum wage 1.25 an hour
  • Provided assistance to cities with high
    unemployment

Addressing Poverty Abroad
  • Peace Corps Program of volunteer assistance to
    the developing nations of Africa, Asia, and Latin
    America
  • People of all ages and backgrounds signed up to
    volunteer
  • Alliance for Progress offered economic and
    technical assistance to Latin American Countries
  • U.S invested 12 billion to Latin America
