Next Generation Licensing (NGL) Overview

• Next Generation Licensing is a new license daemon
  (cdslmd) and a new format license file
• New releases already require the new daemon
• The new license file format will become the
  default in 2H2005
• Releases after 97B are compatible with the new
  license file format
• Customers can begin requesting version-independent
  licenses at any time

Why a new licensing infrastructure?

• Our current licensing infrastructure prevents
  Cadence from supporting newer licensing/business
  models and other functionality requested by
  customers
• Cadence is moving to a new licensing
  infrastructure in order to
• provide increased flexibility
• make our licensing more secure
• align the Cadence license file format with other
  EDA vendors

FLEXlm Issues - Update

• FLEXlm clients( v10.1.3 ) can crash while
  reading/writing to .flexlmrc file
• .flexlmrc file is used by FLEXlm to store the
  last good server it checked out license from.
• The problem manifests in situations where
  multiple jobs are run simultaneously by the same
  user sharing the same home directory e.g. Compute
  farms.
• Until Macrovision fixes the issue, Cadence will
  disable reading and writing to .flexlmrc file.
• There should be no impact because Cadence
  applications do not presently use the .flexlmrc
  file to access the license server.
• License daemon doesn't run on ReiserFS file
  system on a linux. The problem occurs when FLEXlm
  tries to perform root partition check.
• License queuing doesn't work for MAX keyword
