Title: A Quick Tour of its Past, Present, and Future

1
  • A Quick Tour of its Past, Present, and Future

2
The past.
  • Part of a Congressional Award to enhance
e-learning programs and services within the
    System.
  • Project launched in 2001 with three different
project work groups worker, student, and
    educator.
  • Contract with Avenet, Inc. executed (after an
extensive RFP process) in August of 2001 for a
lifetime, in perpetuity license for the core
    software engine.
  • eFolio MinnesotaTM launched in August of 2002
with a more public launch in May of 2003.

3
Some key project assumptions
  • Eligible users would extend to all Minnesota
residents and students. eFolio Minnesota is free
    for these users.
  • A users site would be theirs for life as
    long as they remain eligible.
  • Sites would be owned by the individual user not
    the institution.
  • Entirely web-based and capable of displaying
    multimedia documents and files.
  • Technology literacy would not be a major barrier
    a word processing-type interface.
  • Security and user privacy would be major
    considerations to address.

4
The present.
  • Over 28,000 registered users (see chart) with
    consistent monthly growth.
  • Adoption of eFolio Minnesota within K-12,
    higher education, and workforce settings
    (samples).
  • Partnerships with the Mn Dept. of Education (MDE)
and the Dept. of Employment and Economic
    Development (DEED).
  • Presentations at national education and workforce
    events.
  • Marketing and licensing agreement with Avenet.

5
The future.
  • Publication of eFolio Minnesota research in
April. National satellite broadcast set for
    April.
  • Release of new functionality set for summer of
    2005. Includes interview and questionnaire
    functionality.
  • Ongoing work with MDE and DEED.
  • State summit planned for November 2005.
  • Discussions with Peace Corps, health care
    organizations, Higher Learning Commission (HLC),
Minnesota Rural Partners, corporations, and the
Mn Board of Teaching around possible partnerships.
