Title: Chapter 3 Section 2

1
Chapter 3 Section 2
  • Graphing Equations

2
Note!
  • All graphs must be done on graph paper using a
straight edge. Sloppy work will not be graded.
  • Free Graph Paper! Well almost

3
Solutions to Equations in 2 Variables
  • Unless otherwise stated, the first number in an
ordered pair replaces the variable that occurs
    first alphabetically.
  • Determine if any of the given ordered pairs are
    solutions to 4x 3y 22(7, 2), (2, 10),
    (1, 6)

4
Graph an Equation
  • The graph of an equation is the set of all
    possible solutions to the equation.
  • If a point is on the graph, it is a solution to
    the equation.
  • If a point is a solution to the equation, then it
    is on the graph.

5
  • Lets do it Graph y 3x 2

6
  • Graph y 2x 3 using the TABLE

7
  • Graph y 2x 3 using the GRAPH on the
    calculator, set the window to 5, 5, 10, 10

8
  • Graph 4x 2y 12

9
  • Graph x 5y 10 by first solving for y.

10
  • Graphing a nonlinear using the calculator.

Cost of College
  • The cost T, in hundreds of dollars, of tuition
and fees at a community college in Vermont is
given by T (6/5)c 1, where c is the number of
credits (units) registered in by a student. Graph
the equation and use it to estimate the cost of a
4 credit course. Check your answer using the
    equation.
