MAIL
  • The preferred way to submit assignments and to
    contact the instructor during this semester is by
    using WebCT mail.
  • If necessary, you can use conventional email
    (yahoo, msn, etc.)
  • IN THE SUBJEC LINE start with 3900yourlastname
    with your actual last name immediately following
    3900. (After that you can include the subject of
    the email, e.g. assignment 1, question, etc.)
  • Example 3900emmett email assignment would all
    go in the subject line.

EIU Email Assignment
  • Mail a message and page 1 of the quiz as an
    attachment to the instructor using WebCT.
  • In the subject heading, identify the assignment
    as 3900 email-1
  • Mail a message and page 2 of the quiz as an
    attachment to the instructor the using email of
    your choice
  • In the subject heading, identify the assignment
    as 3900 email-2

WebCT
  • Your WebCT User ID is the same as your e-mail ID,
    which you can find in PAWS or in the EIU on-line
    phonebook. 
  • Your password is reset each semester (fall,
    spring, summer), about one week before the
    semester begins, following the formula described
    at our site, http//www.eiu.edu/vce/student/idpwd.
    php.

ID and Password
  • Your User ID for WebCT is your E-mail User ID.  
  • All EIU students have an E-mail User ID that is
    assigned a few days before beginning of their
    first semester at EIU.  
  • If you can't remember it, you can go to the EIU
    Home Page and search for your name.
  • Your password will be reset each semester
    (Spring, Summer, Fall), about 1 week before the
    beginning of the semester.  
  • You will not be able to get into any courses
    until your instructor has populated the class
    roster.  
  • This will allow students from the previous
    semester to check their WebCT grades after the
    semester has finished.

  • Your password will be set in the following
    formula - L6789F
  • L - Represents the First letter of your Last
    name. This should be UPPERCASE.
  • 6789 - Represents the Last 4 digits of your SSN.
  • F - Represents the First letter of your First
    name. This should be UPPERCASE.
  • It is very important that you change your
    password before you start working in your WebCT
    class.  
  • This will help assure that no one is able to view
    your grades, get any sensitive information, or
    attempt to have you fail your course.
  • If you have changed your password and can't
    remember what you changed it to, contact your
    instructor or stop by our ITS Help Desk in the
    Gregg Triad Student Lab or call 581-HELP.

Activating Your EIU Email Account
  • In order to use your student e-mail, access your
    personal Web page, or use your dial-in access,
    you must first activate your account.  
  • The entire activation procedure can be done
    on-line in a few minutes.  
  • If you follow all the steps, you will be able to
    reset your own password in the future.

1.Using any computer with a network connection,
go to the EIU homepage, www.eiu.edu.
To activate your account
2. Click on the PAWS Student Web Services link
(middle left).
3. You will be taken to the PAWS page.  Click the
"Access PAWS System" link in the upper left .

7. Note this name and password.
4. A screen asking for your Social Security
number and PIN obtained from the Registration
office will appear.  Fill in this information
and click the "Submit" button.
5. You will be taken to the PAWS main menu
screen.  Click the "E-mail/WebCT" button on the
upper right.
6. The PAWS message screen will appear.  This
will show your "Account Name", "Account
Password", and "WebCT Password".  Account refers
to your E-mail/WebCT account.

9. Click on the United States flag icon.
8. Now go to the EzReset page, https//www.ezreset
.eiu.edu/.
10. When the log-in screen appears, type your
log-in ID the one you received through PAWS in
the space provided.
11. Select PEN Student Systems (E-mail)Click
and enter your ID. Click on Login
12. When the new screen appears, type in your
password the one you received through PAWS.
13. Click "Verify".

14. A screen will appear asking you to pose four
personal security questions and answers. Click in
each box and enter the appropriate information.
15. Click "Submit".
16. Another screen will appear.  Click "Main".
17. Another screen will appear.  Type in a new
password that meets the rules laid out on the
reset page.  Or click "Pick new password", and
P-Synch will provide you with several potential
passwords from which you can pick.

18. Click "Change my password". You have now
reset your password.
19. Click "Main", to return to the P-Synch
homepage, and click "Logout".
20. If you forget your password in the future,
you will need to answer your personal questions
and then reset your password yourself.
21. Note  At this time there is no
synchronization between WebCT and the new P-Synch
system.  Changing your password through WebCT is
independent of the e-mail password change.  We
are planning to introduce this added
functionality as soon as possible.
