    towards others.
  • 3. We have the right to an environment that
promotes learning and active participation and
the responsibility to behave in a manner that
does not disrupt the learning of others.

  • 23 minutes explaining why the teacher is mean and
    just does not like children
  • 8 minutes in the bathroom

for Mom or Dad to do the assignment

11
Homework-The Truth
  • Homework is given to enhance and strengthen
    skills.
  • Students should have no more than 40 minutes of
homework a night. 20 minutes should be spent
reading (independently or together with a
parent). Any reading for a subject area does
    count toward the 20 minutes.
  • If youre seeing that there is more than 40
minutes, please let Mrs. Z know.

12
Agendas
  • Homework is written in them nightly
  • Parent signature required nightly
  • Spelling words will appear on Friday for the
following week along with the spelling
    activities.
  • Students will keep track of their nightly reading
on the month calendar each day.
  • This is a great communication tool between the
    teacher and parents.

13
Curriculum
  • We have many interesting topics to learn about
this year. To learn more specifically what your
child will learn in fourth grade, please visit
  • GPS  www.georgiastandards.org
  • QCC http//www.glc.k12.ga.us/qcc/

14
Math
  • Everyday Mathematics program
  • Much more than computation
  • Variety of experiences - children do math
  • Daily routines
  • Discussion
  • Partner small-group activities
  • Study links
  • Everyday Math Games to strengthen skills
  • Manipulatives
  • Explanation and traditional and alternate solving
    methods taught

15
Math
  • It is imperative that students in 4th grade know
    their basic multiplication facts.
  • Weekly time tests (non-graded, but students
receive goals for the next week).
  • Practice for 5-10 minutes nightly, at home in the
car, while waiting at after school activities.
Review facts that are known, but spend the most
time on facts that students dont know or
    continuously solve incorrectly.

16
Everyday Math Grading
  • (B) Beginning - Children cannot complete the
    task independently. They show little
understanding of the concept or skill. No points
    are given
  • (D) Developing - Children show some
    understanding. However, errors or
    misunderstandings still occur. Reminders, hints
and suggestions are needed to promote childrens
    understandings. Two points are given
  • (S) Secure - Children can apply the skill or
concept correctly and independently. Three points
    are given

Angles, Lines Pretzel and icing quiz
