Difference between RT and RTA

• Readers Theatre (RT)
• Based on books passages transformed into scripts
• No costumes, no props, no sets

• Use of puppets, props, sets
• Goal Students are involved in every step of the

Our Own Experience of RTA

• Benefits include a sense of ownership over the
  constructed knowledge, active learning, and
  simply enjoying oneself in school.

1) Brainstorm/Develop a Theme

• Students brainstorm around a given theme or
  choose their own theme.
• This brainstorming activity serves as a basis for
  the development of the story.
• Students can use Inspiration.

2) Discuss/Decide on a Story Idea

• The main events of the story are agreed upon.
• Team work is important here.
• Children need to learn to listen to each others
  ideas.

3) Research

• Students will research their theme to include
  factual information in their scripts.
• Use of online resources.

4) Writing and Editing Process

• Use of word processors.
• Peer-editing.

5) Presentation

• Practice, practice, practice!
• Use of computer software to record students
  voices.
• Decide on presentation options.

Concluding Thoughts

• RTA is a wonderful activity for children of all
  ages. The four Language Arts are explored in the
  process of creating, performing, and watching the
  shows.
