Title: PhotoCubism

1
PhotoCubism
  • Gallery of Art Work by Ted Adams

2
Big Boy Bank
  • "This threatening-looking piece is made from
close-up images of a promotional item that Bob's
Big Boy restaurant sent to The Philadelphia
Inquirer. I glued sesame seeds to the burger for
    an authentic mouth-watering effect."
  • Photocopies, watercolor, acrylic, polyurethane,
sesame seeds, brass tacks on cardboard mounted on
    stretcher strips.

3
Large Guitars
  • "This large piece was my first attempt at
    'photocubism.' The two hollow-body electric
guitars were probably manufactured in the 1950's.
The darker instrument is apparently either a
Gibson or an Epiphone, but its headstock and thus
its logo were replaced. The blonde guitar is an
old Harmony. I paid about 150 for each guitar."
  • Photocopies, coffee, polyurethane on cardboard
    mounted on stretcher strips.

4
Mockingbird Composition
  • "The building in the background is from an
abandoned set of tourist photos that a defunct
photo store dumped on the sidewalk. I have not as
yet been able to determine the geographic
location of the building depicted. The bird is
    from a children's science encyclopedia that I
    found in someone's garbage."
  • Inkjet prints, watercolor, acrylic, tinted
acrylic glaze, ball-point pen, steel tacks on
    cardboard mounted on stretcher strips.

5
Toy Horse in Armor
  • "The horse in this piece was one of my favorite
toys as a child. The knight he came with is also
intact and in possession of all his armor."
  • Photocopies, acrylic, oil pastel, tinted acrylic
glaze, polyurethane, brass tacks on cardboard
    mounted on stretcher strips.

6
Broken Telephone
  • "I used the old, crusty phone depicted in this
composition for many years before the keypad
finally stopped working in March 1998. Despite
the fact that the phone did still receive calls,
I reluctantly put it out to pasture. Friends had
also been complaining that the phone had a cigar
smell and was coated with a layer of gummy
    material."
  • Photocopies, acrylic, tinted acrylic glaze,
polyurethane, brass tacks on cardboard mounted on
    stretcher strips.

7
Plastic Flowers
  • "This piece is composed of macro-lens shots of an
antique camera and of plastic flowers a friend
bought in India. She gave the flowers to me when
I was in the hospital with an eye injury."
  • Photocopies, acrylic, oil pastel, tinted acrylic
glaze, polyurethane, brass tacks on cardboard
    mounted on stretcher strips.
