THE MEETING OF THE ESTATES GENERAL
  • Once upon a time We had a little king named
Louis XVI. He took money from the people and used
it to put fancy things in his palace and bought
his wife nice things too. The people decided to
fight back. They didnt like the way their king
spent their money and treated them.

THE TENNIS COURT OATH
  • A group of people joined together to fight
against the king named themselves the National
Assembly. In 1789 they met at a Tennis Court and
they pledged to keep meeting until they made a
new constitution. They demanded their rights!

THE STORMING OF BASTILLE
  • A mob started to form, looking for guns
gunpowder. They attacked the Bastille July 14,
1789. A crowd stormed in and attacked a small
army and beheaded the prison governor and the
mayor. They freed the seven prisoners kept in the
Bastille at the time and took the guns and
gunpowder. They went through the streets of Paris
    happy and undefeated!

The March on Versailles
  • On October 4, 1789, a crowd of women demanded
bread for their families marched toward
Versailles .The King agreed to meet with some of
the women and promised to distribute all the
bread in Versailles to the women. The National
Guard arrived and wanted to take the King back to
Paris. The women got very angry and broke into
the palace. The king went to Paris with his wife
and children and never kept his promise to the
    people.

The Reign of Terror
  • In the summer of 1793 a guy named Robespierre was
the leader of the Committee of Public Safety. He
ruled France and during this time was known as
the Reign of Terror. Robespierre increased the
prices on food items. Many people were
imprisoned and executed by a device called a
guillotine, used to cut off heads, because they
were accused of treason. Luckily in July, 1794
    Robespierre was guillotined himself!

The Rise of Napoleon
  • Napoleon became emperor in 1804. Instead of
allowing the pope crown him, he crowned himself.
In 1805 the Battle of Trafalgar took place.
Napoleon lost the battle. During the first decade
of the 1800s Napoleon ruled more than half of
Europe! Napoleon was able to maintain his empire
for five years (1807-1812) Then it fell to
pieces. June, 1815 Napoleon attacked at the
Battle of Waterloo. The British and Prussian
forces ran Napoleon and his army out of the
field! He was once again defeated. This battle
ended Napoleons last bid for power, called the
    Hundred Days.

A Conclusion on the French Revolution
  • After Napoleon was defeated in Waterloo, most of
Europe restored some of the feudal taxes and this
