Groove Networks History
  • Ray Ozzie founded Goove in October 1997
  • Rays inspiration for Groove came after watching
his son play Quake, an on-line video game, with
    this friend across the Internet
  • Ray began to understand that his son and his
friends had created their own virtual environment
to socialize and play a game in
  • He realized businesses could harness the same
power of the Internet to securely interact and
    collaborate on their business problems.

How Does Groove Work?
  • Once you have installed Groove on your local
computer, the first step is to create a shared
workspace for a particular project, task, or team
    exercise.
  • You then populate the workspace with application
    tools and data.
  • Using instant messaging or e-mail, you invite
users to participate in the secure shared
    workspace.
  • All of the information created and displayed in a
Groove shared workspace is stored on each
    individuals local computer.
  • When a user enters the workspace after being
absent, any changes made in the workspace are
automatically replicated to the users machine.
  • To support low bandwidth requirements, Groove
uses a method of data transfer known as the
    binary differential method.
