Finneytown Offensive Philosophy
  • The Finneytown Wildcat offense will be the most
exciting and explosive offense in the state. It
will be composed of a ground and air attack that
    will be impossible to defend.
  • This offense requires intense learning,
    concentration, mental toughness, precise timing,
aggressive play and total belief from every
    player in the two-dimensional philosophy.
  • Multiple formations and motions will help spread
the defense so that the rushing game will be
    effective.
  • Success of team will rely on players, not plays.
  • We will have versatility through formations,
motions and personnel groups double slot,
    trips, orange.
  • We will have versatility through alignment
    motions, line splits, cheat backfield
    (king/queen).
  • Our formations will force defenses to stop the
    pass.
  • Many routes in the passing game our mirrored.
  • QBs, WRs, RBs and FBs must recognize defenses
    and make adjustments.
  • Rushing plays will attack the middle, inside,
off-tackle and perimeter of the defense.
  • Strategies will be implemented to attack defenses
    in specific situations goal-line, boundary,
    field, 2 minute, etc.
  • Screens, 60 Series and counters (reverses) will
be ran away from motion and the field.
  • The offense will take advantage of psychological
    situations fumble recovery, interception, long
offensive gain, long punt or kick return, etc.
  • Offense will you use Rip/Liz motion in order to
    recognize defensive coverage.
  • Offense will utilize the FB with screens, belly,
    trap, option and draw.
  • Motions give a numbers advantage and may
    eliminate run support

  • Boundary short side of the field
  • Field wide side of the field
  • Flat Motion Motion by the the Halfback in which
the path is directed towards the opposite
    sideline.
  • Rip Halfback motion Right (Flat Motion)
  • Liz Halfback motion Left (Flat Motion )
  • Orbit Motion Motion by the right and left
halfback in which the path is directed 3 yards
behind the FB. The goal in this motion is to get
    into pitch relationship.
  • Ram Halfback motion Right (Orbit Motion)
  • Lion Halfback motion Left (Orbit Motion)
  • King FB offset Right
  • Queen FB offset Left
  • Midline a line that can be drawn right through
the middle of the quarterback and center.
  • Red Zone Inside the 20 yard line
  • 60 Protection FB blocks opposite the call and
    OL blocks to the call.
  • 70 Protection FB blocks to the call and OL
    blocks away from the call.
  • Stalk Base block that a WR inflicts on a CB
  • Crack Down (seal or angle) block that a WR
inflicts on a DB or LB.

5
Finneytown Offensive Personnel
  • QB The character and athletic ability of our
quarterback will have a significant impact on our
football team. The quarterback must be someone
that can be trusted by his players and coaches.
He must be perceived by his team as a winner.
He must hate to lose and do whatever it takes to
win. The quarterback must be a good decision
maker, have great confidence, have great field
presence, have courage, have great throwing
ability, have great running ability and be a
tremendous leader on and off the football field.
  • HBs Ls and Rs (Louie Roger) must be
tremendous athletes. They must be able to run
great routes, have great hands and be physically
able to block in our option and belly game. They
must be able to threaten the defense vertically
and horizontally. This stretching of the defense
will allow us to take advantage of the entire
field with a 4 wide receiver threat. The
spreading of the defense will also allow us to
rush the ball effectively in the middle of the
field and on the perimeter. Ls and Rs will
serve as ball-carriers in our counter and option
    game.
  • FBs Our fullback is the feature back of our
offense. He must be physically able to block and
carry the ball 15 25 times a game. He will run
the ball in the belly, trap and option series.
The FB will also catch the football in our screen
    series.
  • WRs In our run and shoot offense, the
wide-receivers will be an important feature in
our passing game. They must be able to make the
big play at any time. WRs must be our fastest
receivers, for they will stretch the field
vertically on our fade series. Their speed
should also open the underneath are of zone
coverages. WRs must also be physical enough to
be great blockers. They will be called upon to
crack and stalk block in our rushing game.
  • TE (Y) Our TE plays a significant role in our
Orange Series. He must have the physical ability
to be a great blocker on our 33 39. In
addition, he must also be athletic enough to run
various routes featuring the TE. The TE can also
line up as WR in our regular personnel package.
  • OT Offensive Tackles must be our biggest and
strongest blockers. They will not be called upon
to trap and pull. They must be the go-to guys
on short yardage and goal-line situations. Must
also be athletic enough to pass-protect against
    athletic defensive lineman.
  • OG Offensive Guards are the most athletic of our
offensive lineman. They will trap and pull and
must also have great footwork. Various line
blocking schemes will call for our guards to
avoid defensive lineman so that we can run our
option game. Getting up-field on LBs is key to
being an effective option team. They must also
be intelligent so that we can make proper calls
    up-front.
  • C The center is the leader of our offensive
line. He will call and discipline the huddle.
He is the first to break the huddle and is the
leader in recognizing fronts. He also must be
athletic enough to get up-field on LBs. He will
also be responsible for picking up blitzes in our
pass-protection. The center should be the most
    intelligent lineman on the field.

The huddle is 7 yards from the line of scrimmage.
The Center is responsible for calling the
huddle. Once called, the huddle is silent. The
quarterback is the only one who will talk in the
huddle. As the play is being called in or ran
in, it is important for the quarterback to
communicate the down and distance to the other
players. The offensive lineman should have hands
on knees with eyes and ears forward. The
quarterback will call the play 2 times. After
the first time, the center and wide receivers
will leave the huddle. After the second time,
the huddle will break! If you do not
understand or hear the play, call check and the
play will be repeated. A player should not go to
the line of scrimmage if he does not know the
play. After break, offensive line will
sprint to LOS and get set.

Pass Protection
  • Pass Protection will be based on a 6 man blocking
scheme. Rules will be based on area, not man
protection. FB will slide to call, and OL will
slide opposite. Players must think and work
with other OL to be effective. OL must sometimes
pass defenders on to each other in order to
    pick up defensive blitzes.
  • Vs. 50 front, play-side OT will lock on DT, while
    FB blocks DE.
  • Vs. 40 front, play-side will make a FIRE call.
F-I-R-E means FB on End. Course tight to OT.
  • 70 means FB Right OL Left 71 means

In this example, RT locks on DT. The defense is
a 50 front. Center picks up blitz.
In this example, LT makes FIRE call and blocks
B-gap. Slide Protection is able to pick up 6 man
rush.
In this example, RT slides left and blocks B-gap.

FIRE was the Call. So FB should be on DE. In
this case, DE went into B-gap. So OT and FB must
adjust. OL on DE. FB on LB.
Vs this Stunt, RG slides to A gap. Since N goes
away, he picks up LB. RG can pass defender.
Vs this Stunt, RG stays on N, and center will
block blitzing LB. No pass of the defender.

  • Brings new personnel into the game (TE)
  • Creates a power running game to the strength of
    the formation
  • Creates a power running game to the weakness of
    the formation
  • Provides a short corner to run sweep (Orange 39)
  • Puts 3 receivers on the weak side
  • After homo motion puts 4 receivers to the
    weak side of the formation
  • Challenges the defense to prepare and align for a
    new front
  • Defenses will either adjust DL, adjust LBs,
move LB up on overbalanced side or bring corner
    over.
  • Provides play action opportunities (Guards East
    Trail/Corner/Slip)
  • Ran only to right side which will maximize reps
