Cardiovascular Disease
  • Definition Cardiovascular diseaseCardiovascular
    disease refers to the class of diseases that
    involve the heart and/or blood vessels (arteries
    and veins). While the term technically refers to
    any disease that affects the cardiovascular
    system, it is usually used to refer to those
    related to atherosclerosis (arterial disease).
    These conditions have similar causes, mechanisms,
    and treatments.

    blood pressure", is a medical condition where the
    blood pressure is chronically elevated.

  • What is Cancer? ( www.cancer.org )
  • A group of diseases in which there is
    uncontrolled multiplication of abnormal cells in
    the body.
  • Cancer is the second leading cause of death in
    the U.S.
  • What causes Cancer?
  • Most cancers come from a combination of factors
    that are
  • Inhereditable which are uncontrollable (
    gender, genetic inheritance, or age).
  • Environmental- which are somewhat controllable (
    environmental pollutants). A person may be
    exposed to a carcinogen or cancer-causing agent
    such as asbestos or pesticides
  • Behavioral- which are controllable ( smoking
    behavior, exposure to UV rays, and diet)

How can I check for skin cancer and how often
should I check? You should perform monthly skin
self-exams. This will help you be aware of your
skin and keep track of any changes by using a
skin map to chart your existing moles, birthmarks
and other skin growths. If you notice any
changes, consult your dermatologist.   Remember
the ABCDE warning signs Asymmetry of lesion
Border (uneven borders) Color variation
(many shades of color within a lesion) Diameter
greater than 6 millimeters (pencil eraser)
Evolving/Elevation (lesion is growing in height)

What is diabetes?
  • disease in which the body cannot properly use
    blood sugars or glucose!
  • Glucose a sugar that is one of the bodys main
    sources of fuel.

What happen when you have diabetes?
                              High blood sugar
can cause kidney problems.
  • -diabetes causes blockage or damage to small
    blood vessels that feed the bodies organs.
  • High blood sugar can cause kidney
    problems.
