2SENEGAL PROGRAMS
- Avian Influenza activity component was added to
the Locust Control Program in 2006 and is part of
the National Action Plan - Consortium led by Catholic Relief Services (CRS)
with Counterpart International (CPI).
Implementing partners include - Caritas Thiès

- Goal Vulnerable populations have improved their
capacity to prevent and respond to Avian

8SURVEILLANCE SYSTEMS
- 8 missions for epidemiological surveillance have
been carried out in the project sites including
blood sampling of domestic poultry and wild birds
for analysis at the Hann Laboratory - During the missions, 7,793 domestic poultry
vaccinated against Newcastle disease parasite
medicines for 1,366 poultry 1,140 blood samples
taken

12COMMUNICATION
- Support to CONAGAs communication plan for
printing of education materials. - Distribution of 102,500 handouts, 10,000 posters
and 10,000 leaflets, validated by CONAGA. Posters
were done in French, Wolof, and Pulaar. - 17 community radio stations each broadcasted 12
programs during 3-month periods. - Radio programs broadcast in 6 local languages by
trained technicians educating about Avian
Influenza, prevention methods, and proper
hygiene. - Demonstrations of hen houses and improved
techniques.
