DJJs Mission
  • The Governors mission is to raise personal
  • incomes of South Carolinians by creating a
  • better environment for economic growth,
  • delivering government services more openly and
  • efficiently, improving quality of life, and
  • improving our states education.
  • The South Carolina Department of Juvenile
  • Justice supports the Governors mission by
  • protecting the public and reclaiming juveniles
  • through prevention, community programs,
  • education, and rehabilitative services in the
    least
  • restrictive environment.

DJJ Roles
  • Juvenile Detention Center(s)

DJJ Responsibilities
  • Process all criminal cases committed by juveniles
    16 and under (except those offenses considered
    automatic waiver offenses at 16)
  • Perform intake interviews
  • Make recommendations to the Solicitor (E.g.
    Juvenile Arbitration Program or Contract)
  • Make recommendations to the Court
  • Perform secure and local psychological
    evaluations
  • Supervise all juveniles who are either on
    probation or parole
  • Enforce orders of the Court
  • Provide referral assistance to the general public
