  • 3. Consonantal suf. All 2nd 1st

3
Consolidating the Perfect
  • B. The First Syllable . . .
  • In all of the derived stems, the first syllable
is a closed, unaccented syllable with a normal
    short vowel.
  • This is achieved via a stem prefix or the
    doubling of the second radical.
  • Thus, the first syllable is consistantly the same
in all of the derived stems.
  • Moreover, you can you can rely upon the stem name
for the voweling of the initial syllable.
  • EXCEPTION Qal 2nd Plurals where the first
    syllable is a vocalic sheva.

Consolidating the Perfect

    playing his Saxophone.

  • A. Two Variations for the Imperfect
  • 1. No sufformative mostConsonantal suf.
    3FP-2FP
  • Only in Niphal and Hiphil do forms with
    consonantal sufformatives follow a different
voweling pattern than those without any
    sufformative
  • 2. Vocalic sufform. 2FS-3MP-2MP
  • B. Inflecting the Imperfect
  • Memorize the imperfect stem names

7
Consolidating the Imperfect
  • C. Imperfect Voweling in General
  • Hithpael, Hophal, Huphal. The imperfect voweling
for these stems is identical to their perfect
voweling and so the stem name can be relied upon
for their voweling in all forms except those with
    a vocalic sufformatives.

8
Consolidating the Imperfect
  • C. Imperfect Voweling in General
  • Pual The imperfect voweling for the Pual is
also identical to its perfect voweling you just
need to add a vocalic sheva under the
    preformative.
  • Piel Like the Pual, the Piel takes a vocalic
sheva under the imperfect preformative, the rest
of the voweling follows the pattern Pael as in
    Hithpael.

9
Consolidating the Imperfect
  • C. Imperfect Voweling in General
  • Qal hireq holam
  • Niphal niphal triangle tsere
  • Hiphil patach hireq yod
  • D. Imperfect Voweling of 3FP-2FP
