Modernization and Action Plan - Brief
- 24-25 June 2003
2Robotics UMS User Mod Plan (2003 Beyond)
Purpose
- The Engineer Robotics and Unmanned Systems User
Modernization and Action Plan will be updated
annually to coincide with and mirror the
Department of Defense (DOD) Joint Robotics
Program (JRP) Master Plan (MP). - This document will be used as a management and
planning tool to by Engineers and the Robotics
Community to - (1) Establish definitive, user robotics and UGV
operational concepts and requirements for the
Engineer Proponent - (2) Identify and pursue critical technologies
to satisfy these requirements - Through ST (STO) efforts
- Emerging commercial technological advances
- (3) Provide a list of priorities
- Cont
3Robotics UMS User Mod Plan (2003 Beyond)
Purpose Continued
- (4) Coordinate/capture all Objective Engineer
Force UGV requirements - (5) Provide a Road Map for the Engineer DCD,
ST community, and the Program Manager to focus
our limited assets on Robotic capabilities needed
now and to define the future Robotics
capabilities needed by the user -
4Robotics UMS User Mod Plan (2003 Beyond)
- Engineer Robotics Vision
- The Engineer School supports incorporating
Robotic applications on trucks, trailers, and
platforms to provide a standoff capability during
hazardous missions. - The 4 points that must be sold to Army decision
makers to justify why a required operational
capability should be roboticized - It reduces soldier risk/exposure to threats
- It improves deployability and/or reduces the
footprint of the force - It is cost and operationally effective
- It does not create an operational, maintenance
and interoperability burden on gaining units - If the answer to all of these questions is yes,
it is a viable robotic requirement. Otherwise,
it is a gray area requiring additional analysis
to justify proceeding.
