EXAMPLE OF PROGRAM Drug Targeting
CELL
Targeted drug delivery for the treatment of
infections due to intracellular pathogens
Nanoparticledissolving
Bacteria
  • Work is currently underway into all aspects in a
    systematic manner with encouraging results
  • Will define the ideal system which can be used
for the control of intracellular bacterial
    infections like Tuberculosis Brucellosis and
Salmonellosis with targeted drug delivery system
    using nanoparticles

Hollow or solid glass nano particle where t is
the thickness of glass shell and R is the
internal radius of the particle.

ICTAS Theme Areas
  • Ecology of Infectious disease (EID)
  • Led by Dr. Taranjit Kaur (veterinary medicine),
this theme area will focus on incorporating new
technology to develop a smarter, more compact and
environmentally benign PLUG for early diagnosis
    of potential epidemics/infectious diseases in
    animals.
  • formerly Portable Smart
    Laboratory for Human-Wildlife Interactions (PLUG)
  • Non-invasive Sensing and Diagnosis
  • Led by Professor Pavlos Vlachos (ME), this theme
area will focus on the development of
non-invasive sensors for early diagnosis and
    treatment of cardiovascular and pulmonary
    disease.
  • Assistive Technologies
  • A team led by professor Thurman Lockhart (ISE)
will focus on assistive technologies including
    point-of-care technologies for physically
    challenged individuals.
  • Bio-MEMS Leader Rafael Davalos Single cell
stretcher, micro probes for tissue properties...

ICTAS Theme Areas
  • Smart Vehicles
  • With a planning grant from NSF, the effort is
    underway to join a multi-university
    NSF/Industry/University Cooperative Research
Center on Smart Vehicles. P.I. Roop L. Mahajan
    Co-P.I. and Director Rakesh Kapania
  • Human Behavior Analysis
  • Francis Quek (CS) to lead this effort plans are
to submit a major proposal to NSF.
  • Center for Inflammation
  • Led by Professors Liwu Li (Biology) and Ge Wang,
effort is underway to form a Center for
Inflammation to focus on leveraging our unique
    research expertise in immunity and
    bioluminescence.
  • Occupational Safety and Health
  • An expanded version of the Center for Innovation
on Construction Safety and Health (director
Brian Kleiner), with a focus on the interface
between humans and hazards. The new charter
provides the flexibility to impact different
    occupational sectors including construction,
    mining, automobiles, etc.
