11Sardine larvae in the Guadiana Estuary?
zooplankton net - 4.9 2.0 mm (include recently
hatched larvae) otter trawl - 32,90 2.0 mm
St. 5 - otter trawl
zooplankton net
- sardine larvae collected in St. 5 (February
2003) were undoubtedly - older than those collected in the terminal area
of the estuary
- active migration to that location has to be
considered
- passive transport of plankton is not supposed to
achieve such a - distance, from st. 3 or st. 4 till st. 5 during
higher inflow periods
Morais et al. 2003
in opposition to what have been assumed for
estuaries in general, the presence of sardine
larvae in the Guadiana estuary, seems to be
non-accidental
