3
  • The TDA commissioned us to provide a
programme of CPD to address its key priorities
  • Behaviour management
  • Curriculum change
  • Special Needs
  • The programme we have developed is an
intensive programme based on character education

4
  • Our youth today have luxury. They have bad
manners, contempt for authority, disrespect for
older people. Children nowadays are tyrants. They
contradict their parents, gobble their food and
    tyrannise their teachers.
  • Socrates

5
  • Many teachers and academics find subscribing to
any set of values deeply problematic in a
pluralist society and so commit themselves to
    nothing in particular.
  • Arthur
  • Real conversation is that in which all parties
speak, listen and respond to one another. For
many young people, this is a rare experience.
  • Noddings

6
  • Character education is inherently a
    multidisciplinary endeavour, which requires its
adherents to ask divergent questions and employ
disparate methods in approaching the subject.
  • Arthur (2003)

7
  • An intensive CPD programme from now until
December funded by the TDA free to participants
  • Expertise from the course team designed to work
alongside colleagues in their own context
  • Considerable additional resource for your school
    improvement process

8
  • Phase 1
  • There are 10 evening sessions and 3 plenary
days supported with online discussion and
    structured practical activities
  • Aim
  • To explore the history of and academic ideas
involved in character education and to apply them
to the school context you face

9
  • Phase 2
  • Case study visits to other organisations
  • Aim
  • To analyse the aspects of character education in
the case study organisation and evaluate the
impact, with the intention of developing an
    aspect in own context

10
  • Phase 3
  • Supported school based project
  • Aim
  • To implement a school project (in line with
school improvement plan) with consultant support
    from the course team
