  • UCP believes that each person that receives
    services through the Agency has the right to
    use/receive proper professional services, to
    enjoy privacy and confidentiality in the use of
    information about his/herself and to be free from
    embarrassment, discomfort and harassment. People
    have the right to
  • Access the established procedures for handling
    their complaints
  • Be informed of services available.
  • Communication concerning program.
  • A safe and humane service environment.
  • Be protected from abuse, neglect or mistreatment.
  • Privacy which promotes their quality of life.
  • Receive appropriate quality service.
  • Participate in the planning of their service.
  • Prompt and appropriate medical care and emergency
    medical treatment.

ABUSE / NEGLECT (ADULTS)
  • Abuse the infliction of physical pain, injury
    or the willful deprivation by a caregiver
  • Neglect failing to appropriately supervise an
    individual per the individuals treatment plan

  • Observations of abuse or neglect must be reported
    immediately to his/her supervisor, VP of Programs
    Services or President of UCP
  • Team will discuss the situation and review any
    evidence in order to determine whether they agree
    that there is a possibility of child abuse
  • Neither the agency nor any of its employees will
    attempt to dissuade an employee from calling the
    Abuse Hotline however, the call to the Hotline
    should not be made on behalf of UCP if the team
    members listed above do not agree that the
    employees concerns are substantiated

  • Physical child abuse
  • Burns, bite marks, cuts, bruises or welts in the
    shape of an object
  • Resistance to going home
  • Fear of adults
  • Emotional child abuse
  • Apathy, depression
  • Hostility
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Sexual child abuse
  • Inappropriate interest in or knowledge of sexual
    acts
  • Seductiveness
  • Avoidance of things relating to sexuality, or
    rejection of ones own body
  • Either over compliant or excessive aggression
  • Fear of a particular person for family member

SUICIDE / ATTEMPTED SUICIDCE
  • Suicide the act of deliberating taking ones
    life
  • Suicidal behavior any deliberate action with
    potentially life-threatening consequences, such
    as taking a drug overdose or deliberately
    crashing a car
  • Suicide attempts far outnumber completed
    suicides.
  • These attempts are often a deliberate cry for
    help.
