To best prepare for the 21st century
  • Our advice is-- when you are ready,
  • choose a major YOU love!
  • ( do not equate major with job)
  • Your acquired knowledge and TRANSFERRABLE skills
will be valued in an ever changing and more
complex world of work in the future

18
The first misunderstanding is to confuse
education with training. Education should prepare
you to BE someone rather than to DO something.
  • Father James Burtchaell, Notre Dame University

19
HOW TO ACE COLLEGE

20
Make it happen If its not on your calendar,
itll never happen. Phil Keoghan
  • Folks, Its ALL about time management!!
  • Reserve or block 2 hours of study for every
    credit hour. 16 credits X 2 30 hrs (!!) of
    scheduled
  • study time every week
  • Utilize your blocked daytime hours for study
go to the library regularly or to a quiet study
    area, not to your room!!
  • Things which matter most should never be
at the mercy of things which matter least.
    Goethe

21
Dr. Richard Light, Harvard Prof, writes in his
book, Making the Most of College
  • You should
  • get to know at least 1-2 faculty each term (for
    advice, support, and references )
  • Manage time in blocks plan your hours for
    study
  • Get involved in variety of extracurricular
    activities
  • Take a mix of courses-- and dont devote first
    years solely to requirements.
  • ( Light also says parents are well meaning but
    give lousy advice on
  • point 4,--theyre especially bad at picking
    courses! ? )

22
