Where is Oulu?

General information

• Tietomaa Science Centre is the first science
  centre in Finland.
• It was established in the summer of 1988.
• Tietomaa operates in a building that was
  originally built in the 1920s as a steam power
  station and a water tower.

Exhibitions

• In Tietomaa there are
• 9 theme exhibitions.
• More than 170 exhibits.
• At least two new exhibitions per year
• One designed and built by Tietomaa.
• One rented / travelling exhibition.

• First super screen cinema in Finland.
• Biggest flat white screen in Finland
• (16 m x 12 m, 192 m²).
• Film format 8/70 mm.

• Oulu Tourist services is a net unit common
  budget (Tietomaa, Nallikari Camping, Congress
  Oulu, Tourist Info)
• Tietomaas turnover 1,2 Milj. Euro
• ½ own sales (tickets, rents, sponsors)
• 2004 70 000 visitors
• ½ from the city (negotiations every autumn)
• Investment budget is separated, varying yearly
• Enlargement (workshops, warehouse, staff room,
  area for travelling exhibitions) and renovation
