VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING IN FINNISH
EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM
  • Vocational education and training start at upper
    secondary level
  • The upper secondary level is based on compulsory
    basic education (comprehensive school)
  • The aim is to provide students with the knowledge
    and skills necessary to gain vocational
    expertise, the capabilities to find employment or
    to become self-employed
  • Provide students with extensive basic vocational
    skills for various assignments in their field and
    more specialised competence and vocational skills
    as required by working life in one sector of the
    qualification

COMPOSITION OF STUDIES
  • The scope of studies is expressed in terms of
    credits, one credit is equivalent to
    approximately 40 hours of a students work
  • The total number of credits for a three-year
    study programme is 120 credits, one year
    equalling to 40 credits
  • The studies must include at least 1,5 credits of
    student counselling and final project worth at
    least 2 credits

SKILLS DEMONSTRATION
  • Skills demonstrations belongs to the
    certification in the school-based education
    system
  • Students have to pass a skills demonstrations in
    every vocational modul in oder to be certified
  • The test shall be organised in co-operation with
    local working life and assessed together by
    teachers and representatives of working life
