3The history of the Nagykunságs (Great Cumania)
centre goes back to the Mongolian destruction in
XIII. century. After their settling in Hungary
they were converted to Christianity and adapted
to the feudal Hungarian society. They became
Hungarian and one part of their ancestral
language and culture live in geographical names,
worlds and idioms more. Their life style is been
characterized by grazing animal keeping and
agriculture on small farms, which is made on the
pusztas.
4It gives the citys market-town rank for
centuries. Karcag became the centre of the region
in consequence of its situation, cultural-,
trade-, health-, educational- and agricultural
role. It is a typical market-town in the Great
Hungarian Plain, which town has a lot of
institutoins and external contacts-system.
5The people of Karcag is involved, its inhabitants
are very proud of their past and traditions.
6Protestant Hungarians are showed by the Reformed
Church, which is built in romantic style, the
Catholics who are settled by the directive of
the queen in XVIII. century by the graceful
Chatolic Church, which was built on the turn of
the century.

8Our town has an importance artistic-life. The
pottery is famous. The Kossuth-prize winning
Sándor Kántor lived and worked here and the disc
turns in a lot of workshops today too. The
Munkácsy and Mednyánszky-prize winning Sándor
Györfi sculptor works in the town, whose public
squaress bronze statues decorate settlements on
lots places.

Region are - There runs already on an area of 5000 ha
organic farming on the outskirts of Karcag - The town has an area of 800 ha as a part of
Hortobágys National Park, which is part of the
World Heritage - The Agriculture Research Institute is
specialised on producing selected seeds, - In addition to this, an area of 8000 ha is
going to be joined to The NATURE 2000 Network.
