- Our primary goal is to teach every child-from the
physically gifted to the physically
challenged-how and why they should keep
themselves healthy throughout their lifetime. - In our PE program, we provide learning
experiences that are developmentally appropriate,
and that increase physical activity.
3To Achieve This Goal We Will
- Include a balance of skills, concepts, game
activities, physical fitness, and dance
experiences. - Provide experiences that encourage children to
question, integrate, analyze, communicate, apply
cognitive concepts, and gain a wide,
multi-cultural view of the world. - Teach activities that allow children the
opportunity to work together to improve their
emerging social skills and positive self-concept.

- Provide ongoing fitness assessments as a part of
the process to help children understand, enjoy,
improve, and/or maintain their physical health
and well-being. - Grade decisions on ongoing individual assessments
of students as they participate in physical
education class activities. - Design our classes so that ALL children are
involved in activities that allow them to
experience the joy of movement.
5Student Expectation andResponsibilities
- To do your personal best each day in all aspects
of class. - To use proper social skills at all times and
uphold the behavior agreement. - To attend class in the proper clothing for the
prescribed activity/facility and weather. - To be responsible for all medical excuses,
re-admits, and make-up work. - To complete all class responsibilities and
required work.

- 6. To get to class and roll call on time.
- 7. To be sure locks and lockers are secure.
- 8. To take care of PE clothes, including storage,
cleaning, and repair. - 9. To take care of all toilet needs before going
to class. - 10. To keep the physical education areas clean
and respect all facilities and equipment.

8Curriculum
- The Jonas Salk PE Program offers students a
diverse curriculum, which includes individual and
team activities, lifetime sports, cooperative
games, and multi-cultural activities. - 6th Grade Theme

10Dressing Policy
Top Jonas Salk PE T-Shirt (No Graffiti), or solid gray shirt (no logo).
Bottom Jonas Salk PE Shorts or solid black Shorts (no logo).
Socks Required, athletic socks recommended
Shoes Athletic and activity appropriate.
Combination Lock Required.
Sweats (Optional) Jonas Salk Sweatshirts or plain gray or black sweats and sweatshirts. (no logos or writing)
11Dressing Policy (cont.)
- Jonas Salk PE clothing is available throughout
the school year. Ask a PE teacher (Price
10/piece). - All PE clothing must have the students first
initial, last name, and grade printed on both the
shirts and shorts. We also suggest printing name
on sweats and sweatshirts. - PE students are required to dress everyday.
Students on medical are still required to dress.
Loaner clothing (shirts/shorts) are available on
a daily basis.

13Loaner Clothing
- Loaner Policy
- Students are required to check-out loaners from
PE teacher. - Students must get loaners at the beginning of
class. - Students may use loaners a maximum of 5 times per
quarter. - Loaners must be returned right-side out and
folded.

15Locker-room Policies
- Students will be assigned a basket-locker for
storage of PE products ONLY. - Students must purchase a combination lock.
- Long Green Lockers are for use DURING class only.
- Students are responsible for the security of
their lockers. Lock personal items at all times.
16Locker-room Policies
- No locker sharing. Keep combinations to
yourself. - Students are allowed in the locker-room during
their PE period only. - No food or beverage allowed in locker-room.
- Students who fail to follow locker-room rules may
lose locker-room privileges or use.
17Medical Excuses
- All parent notes considered limited participation
excuse. - A parent note limits student activity for 3 days
max per grading period. - A doctors note is required after 3rd day
(District Policy). - Students on medical are still required to dress
for PE.
