5Legal Definition of wildernessThe statutory
definition of Wilderness is found in Section 2(c)
of the Wilderness Act of 1964 "A wilderness
is hereby recognized as an area where the earth
and community of life are untrammeled by man,
where man himself is a visitor who does not
remain."
Importantly logging and oil and gas drilling
are prohibited in wilderness areas.
