Keyboards
  • A keyboard is a sort of hardware on the computer
    you use to type to get words on the computer
    screen. Keyboards are always used on a computer
    so it is one of the most common pieces of
    equipment you use on a computer.

Mouses
  • A mouse is a piece of hardware but it does have
    some software in it. Like a keyboard it is a very
    common thing when using a computer. A mouse
    controls what u click on when using the computer
    and it tells you what you are doing and where you
    go.

Printers
  • After the monitor, the second most common
    computer output device is the printer. Printers
    can be connected to an individual computer, or to
    a network and shared by a number of computers.
    Printing out work from the computer is referred
    to as obtaining a hard copy.

Scanners
  • You can use a scanner to input pictures and text
    into a computer. The most common type is the
    flat-bed scanner which works by placing the
    picture to be scanned face down on a glass plate,
    like a photocopier.

Digital cameras
  • The images taken on a digital camera are held in
    the computer memory instead of an photographic
    film. The pictures can then be displayed on the
    computer monitor printed or imported into a
    graphics/art package for editing .

Output
  • When data has been processed, it needs to be
    output in a way which is meaningful to the user.
  • The most common output devices are the computer
    monitor and a printer. Others include devices for
    a control applications such as switches and
    actuators.

Input devices
  • There is a range of input devices these can use.
  • Human touch, sound, magnetism, electric sensors,
    light, control.
  • Each type of input device is designed for a
    specific purpose. See sections 3 to 5 for more
    details.

  • Memory is needed to both programs and any data
    (information) entered by the user or generated by
    the programs.

Hard disk
  • The hard disk unit is mounted inside the computer
    and stores computer programs and your data. A
    microcomputer used at home or at school would
    have a hard disk capacity of 20 to 40 gigabyte.
    This would hold the operating system, the
    applications, games systems, the hard disks may
    hold many terabytes of storage.
