History of Teacher Cadet
  • Began in South Carolina in 1985
  • By end of 98-99, served over 23,500 students
  • 35 of all participants planned to pursue
    teaching credentials upon entering college
  • 21 of 98-99 Cadets changed favorably toward
    teaching as a career
  • 89 indicated the program helped them formulate a
    positive perception of teaching

  • Flagship program for SC Teacher Recruitment
    Center
  • 147 participating schools with 23 partner
    colleges and universities teaching 2600 students
    per year
  • Over 2,000 former Teacher Cadets are currently
    teaching in SC
  • Replicated in 18 other states

  • Began and continued under Carl Perkins Tech Prep
    grant for coordination, curriculum, site license,
    training and materials
  • Continued funding as reimbursable Career
    Development program, approximately 30 rate
    including FTE
  • Access to Carl Perkins Basic Grant funds
    including 820 monies, mini-grants and
    professional development

  • Train the trainer model
  • Integration model with academic partners
  • Expansion in other high schools
  • Expansion of Elementary Education program at
    Warren Tech
  • Co-enrollment with RRCC and credit
  • Partnership with CSU and Metro State
  • Support from the Governors Workforce Development
    Council
