Fire Ratings

49How well do ICF walls hold up in a fire?
- Concrete does not break down until it is exposed
to thousands of degrees Fahrenheit -- far more
than is present in the typical house fire.
50Flame Spread
- The distance flame spreads from the igniting
flame during a 10-minute fire exposure under
controlled test conditions in a test tunnel. - The results of the test are compared to the flame
spread on asbestos-cement board and the flame
spread on an untreated red oak floor under
similar fire exposure.
51Smoke Development
- The amount of smoke developed during a
standardized burning test in a test tunnel. - The results are compared to the smoke developed
by burning an asbestos-cement board and the smoke
developed by burning a red oak floor under
similar fire conditions during a 10-minute
period. - The amount of smoke development is determined by
the light absorption percentage of the smoke
using a photoelectric circuit operation across
the test furnace flue pipe.
52Fire-Wall Test
- In these tests ICF walls were subjected to
continuous gas flames and temperatures of up to
2000F for as long as 3 to 4 hours. Resisting
fire damage through out the entire tests.
53ICFs are Manufactured with FLAME-RETARDANT
additives
- Flames travel about one-fifth as far down a
tunnel lined with ICF forms as compared to a
tunnel lined with wood.
54AMVIC Safety
- Flame Spread of Amvic walls lt 25
- UBC 1997 Chapter 26 Requires lt75
The lower the number the less the fire spreads
Amvic Concrete walls exceed Code requirements by
3 times
55BTUs Generated in an Interior Fire
- AN INTERIOR FIRE
- EPS produces 5420 Btus /sf of heat
- WOOD produces 10,000 Btus /sf heat
