UK summer floods 2007 In groups of
3, you are going to prepare a news broadcast
looking into the summer flooding. You need to
produce an informative and emotive account of
what happened. Within your group, there needs to
be a newsreader, a technical expert and a person
who has been affected by the flooding. A
powerpoint presentation will form the basis of
the piece as with a news report on TV. This must
be researched and put together by all members of
the group and may include video footage.

The global energy issue
Each group will draw out their issue randomly
from one of 9 options
The International Energy Agency says the world
will need 60 more energy in 2030 than in 2002
From what the issue is, to the different types of
energy and even to how we can be more energy
efficient, your pair will be the class experts on
your particular theme.
The task In threes, you are to investigate an
element of the issue and produce 4 powerpoint
slides for a class presentation

Economists predict that 2 million people in the
UK will be out of work by Christmas, rising to 3
million by the end of 2009
You need to examine how your part of the economy
has been affected and is likely to continue to be
in the future. Try to use actual examples from
the press.

• Your task is to build-up a research portfolio on
  the tropical rainforests prior to our fieldwork
  visit. Your file should include maps, photos,
  diagrams and written information.

Managing congestion Car ownership has increased
at an enormous rate over the past 50 years and
with it the problems of congestion. All cities
around the world suffer from the problem to some
extent and world leaders are scratching their
heads about what to do. Your task is to produce
a solution. You are to act as consultants to a
chosen city and must set out what the problem is
and what the potential solutions are. You should
consider schemes around the world not just in
the UK. The outcome will be a 10 minute power
point presentation (10-15 slides) outlining the
issue and with at least 4 different examples of
solutions. You must support your ideas with
evidence where possible.

Finding a place to live The worlds population
is growing and, for the first time, more people
live in cities than the countryside. For many
countries, that means pressure on resources and a
lack of place to live. Your task is to produce
a solution to the housing problem. You are to
act as consultants to a chosen city in a
developing country and must set out what the
problem is and what the potential solutions are.
You should consider schemes around the world
not just in the UK. The outcome will be a 10
minute power point presentation (10-15 slides)
outlining the issue and with at least 4 different
examples of solutions. You must support your
ideas with evidence where possible.
