2THE SECOND WORLD PETROLEUM CONGRESS EXCELLENCE
AWARDS (WPCEA)
3Objective
- The objective of the WPCEA is to distinguish
companies, institutions or any public or private
organisation (not individuals) engaged in the
petroleum industry for promoting or operating
with high excellence standards in two categories - TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT
- SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
- There will be four awards, two in each category
for large and small companies.
4WPCEA Selection Committee
- The selection of the award winners in the two
excellence categories will be made by an
international committee of experts, formed with
representatives from highly qualified and
respected entities. 2 committees each of 4
members will be formed to Consist of - The President of the WPC (Chairman)
- The Director General pf the WPC (Secretary)
- Plus representatives of the following
organisations - Technical Committee
- Sustainability - invited
- World Energy Council - invited
- International Gas Union - confirmed
- Editor of Petroleum Economist confirmed
- Innovation Director Skaug,Erik Norwegian
Research Council - confirmed - Social Committee
- International Petroleum Industry Environmental
Conservation Association - confirmed - Sustainability - invited
- ECON - confirmed
5WPCEA Timetable
- November 2004 Second WPCEA Awards Launched
- May 2005 Applications deadline
- June 2005 1 day meeting (London) for awards
committees. Both committees meet in the morning
and the final decisions are made jointly by both
committees combining in the afternoon - September 2005, Awards mentioned during Congress
opening ceremony - September 2005, Winners luncheon, announcement
and awards presentation.
6WPCEA Selection Criteria
- The selection of the award winners will be made
to projects in accordance with following
Criteria - WPCEA on Technological Developments
- Technological breakthroughs
- Innovative applications of existing technologies
- Cost effectiveness
- Wide applicability for the petroleum industry
- Proved or clearly demonstrable and sustainable
results (long term) - WPCEA on Social Responsibility
- Innovative and far reaching health, safety
environment programmes - Commitment and involvement of management and
employees - Development of mutually beneficial relations with
communities - Feasibility
- Wide applicability and reproducibility for the
petroleum industry - Proved or clearly demonstrable long term results
7WPCEA Candidate Applications

- Eligibility
- Any company, institution, public or private
organisation (not individuals) with activities
(projects) directly related to the petroleum
industry may submit applications for one or both
WPCEA categories. - Individual members represented in the selection
committee will not be eligible for any award. -
8WPCEA Candidate Applications
- Application forms
- Applications should be made with the appropriate
application form that can be obtained from
the WPC Secretariat, the National Committees or
downloaded from the WPC web site. - Each application must be accompanied with a
description of the project with a maximum
of 1000 words. - Supporting materials, such as illustrated
reports, videos, cds and other promotional
documentation are optional. These will be
especially welcome to facilitate the
assessment of the project by the selection
committee. - Application deadline
- Applications should be submitted directly to the
WPC Secretariat or via the local National
Committee no later than the 1st May 2005. -
9Presentation of awards
- Announcement
- The award winners will be informed at the Awards
Luncheon at the 18th Congress - The winners will then have time to prepare for
the presentation ceremony and to display
their winning projects in special WPCEA
display booths.
10Presentation of awards
- Formal presentation of awards
- The awards will be announced during the opening
ceremony of the 18th Congress - The Award winners will be presented with their
awards, at a special - luncheon, at the Congress, by a guest
speaker/presenter. - Representatives of both award winners will have
an opportunity to deliver a speech about the
winning projects and invite the audience to visit
the special WPCEA display booths. -

- WPCEA Display Posters
- Winning projects will be exhibited in four
special display posters after the awards
luncheon. - In addition there will be space for four highly
commended. -
