each year. There are more than 4000 universities
and colleges throughout the United States, and
each has its own unique application process.
This can make applying for college in the United
    States very difficult and confusing.

  • In this WebQuest, you will answer these
    questions
  • How do I decide on a major?
  • How do I find the institution that is right for
    me?
  • How do I find out the requirements for admission?
  • What is the application process like?

4
Task
  • You will prepare for college applications by
  • researching your future career and major
  • finding and comparing schools which have your
    major
  • discovering what admission requirements are for
    each school
  • writing required essays

5
Process
  • Throughout this WebQuest you will document your
    journey in a
  • Microsoft Word worksheet.
  • 1. How can you know what career is right for you?
  • Youll start this quest by discovering what jobs
you are suited for by taking a career aptitude
    test.
  • Career Test
  • Record the results of your test in your
worksheet. Be sure to include what careers you
are predicted to be good at, as well as the one
    you want to pursue.

6
  • Now that you know what careers are best for you,
its time to figure out what you should major in.
  • Go to one of these sites and match your
    interests to majors
  • College Board
  • Princeton Review
  • You might be unsure which job or major you will
pursue. For now, choose one to use for the rest
    of this assignment.

7
  • Next you will write a short essay answering some
    questions
  • about your future job.
  • In your essay, be sure to include
  • 1. Why you chose the career
  • 2. What the work is like
  • 3. What kind of salary you can make
  • 4. Outlook for the future of this career
  • 5. Advantages and disadvantages
  • Some websites that might be helpful
  • Salary Calculator
  • Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook
    Search
  • Career Explorer

8
  • 4. Both of these web pages can also help you
find which schools have that major.
  • College Board
  • Princeton Review
  • Find 5 schools which offer your major and begin
    to compare them.

9
  • 5. Fill in the chart in your worksheet with the
names of 5 schools that have your major.
  • What things do you need to compare?
  • Visit the website for each school and include
    URL, application deadline, tuition for
international students, and TOEFL and other test
requirements, as well as additional features such
    as location, size, and ranking.
  • You decide what additional features are
important to you, and add them to the chart.

10
  • 6. Most schools require you to submit your scores
on standardized tests such as the TEOFL or
TOEIC, the SAT, the GRE, the GMAT, or others.
  • Research which tests you will have to take, as
well as when and where they are offered, how much
they cost, and what scores you need to succeed.
Enter this information on your worksheet.
  • ETS Tests

  • 7. Most schools require a personal statement or
essay as part of their application process. Your
next assignment is to research what essay
requirements the 5 schools have, including topic
and length. Fill in the chart with the essay
topics for each school. Then write your essay.

attending college in America. It can be assigned
as an individual project with a final oral or
