Extended Project
Yasmine worked in a team with five other students
to enter the national TrackNAVCHALLENGE. They had
to design and build a radio-controlled,
four-wheel drive model vehicle that emulated the
all-terrain capabilities of a Land Rover. The
vehicle had to meet the specification devised by
Land Rover designers and engineers. Their vehicle
did extremely well in the regional trials and
they achieved fifth place in the national finals,
as well as being featured in a local newspaper
article.
A two-week placement in a factory building
railway rolling stock, helping to carry out
modifications to an injection-molding press which
produced glass-reinforced plastic seats for train
carriages. This involved scheduling work flows
to minimise production delays and helping to find
ways to reduce excess temperatures in the press.
