2Nature
- The nature of Vawter Hall is somewhat urban.
There are a few trees around the dorm along with
lots of grass in the lawns.
Habitat
- The habitat of Vawter Hall is mostly for human
purposes. Around the hall there is also some
other forms of life that live. There are
squirrels, chipmunks, and lots of different
species of birds.
3Artifact
- Vawter Hall is an artifact in itself. It was
built in 1962 and will be here for many more
years. People in the future will still be able
to see this building and therefore it acts as its
own artifact.
Problem
- The reason that Vawter Hall was built was because
of a problem. Virginia Tech needed more place
for people to live. This is why Vawter Hall was
built, to solve a problem.
4System
- As a system, Vawter Hall is mainly for housing
purposes. It also gives the inhabitants a place
to work and socialize amongst one another.
Another aspect is that it provides jobs for some,
such as janitorial work and the resident advisors
who work inside.
5Traffic
Most of the traffic that flows around Vawter Hall
is shown buy the red arrows in the picture. Most
people are moving to and from Hokie Grille.
Other paths of transportation are shown with
green lines.
6Wealth
- Virginia Tech has made lots of money from Vawter
Hall. Each year they receive thousands of
dollars from students who live in the hall. To
anyone, this land is worth a lot of money because
of the money that is earned by it every year.
Ideology
- The ideology of every student who lives in Vawter
Hall is that they will get a good education and
grow up to be successful people. Vawter Hall
represents this admiration with the students who
live inside it.
7Aesthetic
- There is not to much aesthetic value to Vawter
Hall unless you like to look at buildings.
However, Vawter is not unpleasing to the eye at
all. The hall was designed to look very elegant
with large stones all along the outside of the
walls. It has shrubs and trees all around it,
and is mulched to look very nice.
8History
- Historically, Vawter Hall was built in 1962 and
named after Charles Vawter Sr., rector of the
board of visitors from 1887-1899, but his son
Charles Vawter Jr., a faculty electrical
engineer, also had an impact on the school.
9Space
The space around Vawter Hall is devided into four
spaces. There is a space around the Hokie
Grille, a space between Vawter and Newman, and
two spaces in front of the hall itself. People
travel to and from each space as they move about
throughout their normal day. The two most used
spaces are the one near Hokie Grille and the
space between Vawter Hall and Newman Hall.
10Conclusion
- In conclusion, Vawter Hall is an elegantly
designed building which used the available space
very well. It kept in mind all of the aspects of
the design of a place and used them to function
accordingly.
