• Use a numbered list of steps.
• Organize steps into small directions in the order
  you would follow them in the lab.
• Avoid using pronouns.
• Use commands.
• Tell the reader to measure and record data when
  it is appropriate. Explain what data to record
  and how to measure the data.
• Refer to measurements in the metric system.

• Eliminate unimportant information.
• Sketch and label the experimental set-up. Refer
  to the sketch in directions.
• With multiple sketches, number the steps.
• Include all steps no matter how small it seems.
  It may be the critical step.
• All equipment in the materials section is
  referred to in the procedure.
• Tell the experimenter when to repeat steps.
