When to Go Abroad
  • Typically during junior/senior year
  • Last semester of studies is NOT recommended
  • Upper-division by the beginning of the semester
    prior to intended abroad term
  • Have completed or are currently registered for 2
    approved 300/400-level language courses (3
    recommended for students of French Italian
    emphasis)
  • Have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA that will be
    maintained up to the point of departure to abroad
    institution including a minimum 2.0 semester
    GPA the semester before departure
  • Must be in good academic standing

Exceptions made for students on Language Track

3 Options to Meet IB Semester Abroad Requirement
  • IB Exchange
  • IB-managed bilateral exchanges
  • Same tuition and financial award
  • 1 or 2 semesters (if space available) in
    Region/Language of emphasis
  • Pass an equivalent of full-time (12 SDSU units)
  • CR/NC for all courses taken abroad
  • No GEs abroad
  • Same policies (prerequisites course failures
    apply)
  • No course forgiveness abroad

IB Exchange for Spanish, Italian, German, French,
Portuguese Language Emphases (Language Track I)
  • Equivalency of satisfactory completion of a full
    SDSU academic load (12 transferable units) at
    host institution
  • 4 SDSU courses
  • 2 must be from Business area core or spec
  • Recommended to take 2 SPEC, 1 REG/CULT 1 LANG
  • All courses in target language of foreign
    university
  • Only take pre-approved substitutions (emailed
    with application)
  • LANG Business

Students with advanced Russian follow Language
Track I on MGU exchange only

Foreign Course Registration Guidelines
  • Same pre-requisites apply abroad as here at SDSU
  • No credit for Mktg 376, unless passed Mktg 370
    (C?)
  • Mgmt 405 has several pre-requisites (BA 300)
  • All courses taken abroad will transfer back as
    CR/NC SDSU residency credit
  • CR passing grade on foreign institution scale

3 Options to Meet IB Semester Abroad Requirement
  • IB Internship (IB 495)
  • Managed by Prof. Renatte Adler, Economics Dept.
  • In Region/Language of Emphasis
  • Typically over the summer, but enrolled during
    semester
  • Can double count for your internship and your
    semester abroad requirement, provided it is 250
    hours and in the region and language of emphasis
  • Possible to enroll while abroad, not recommended

Financial Aid
  • Not available for more than 1 academic year
    abroad including previous programs
  • Undergraduates participating in dual degree
    programs (not regular exchanges) are eligible for
    4 semesters abroad

  • Full-time enrollment is necessary
