What is a Cognate?

• Words that look alike and have similar meanings
  in English and Spanish are called Cognates

Un Horrible Accidente

• Ayer ocurrió un horrible accidente. Mi hermano
  estaba conduciendo su auto en la ciudad. Él es
  un chófer muy competente y muy cuidadoso. De
  repente (suddenly) otro automóvil pasó la luz
  roja y chocó (collided) con el vehículo de mi
  hermano. Vino el policía pidió (asked for) la
  documentación de los dos conductores. El
  imprudente no tenía ni póliza de seguros ni otros
  documentos necesarios. Resultó que su auto era
  robado (stolen). Así, el perpetrador fue llevado
  a la prisión y mi hermano fue llevado al hospital
  porque sufrió una postración nerviosa.
