Pelota is played between two or four players
with a ball and a cesta (curved wicker basket).
The object of the game is to bounce the ball
off the front wall with such speed and spin that
the opponent cannot return it.

first official competitions were organised in the
1920s. Pelota was an official Olympic sport
in the 1900 Paris Games.
In 1994, a production company started to paint
the court green so the ball would be more visible
on TV.
