Minimum Driving Standards

MDS Overview

• Authorized driver on state business
• Valid drivers license
• Minimum 2 years licensed driving experience
• At least 18 years of age

Driver Denial / Disqualification

• 3 or more moving violations and/or at-fault
  accidents in past 2 years
• OWI/DUI within 12 months
• Suspended or revoked drivers license
• Agencies may impose stricter standards

MDS Survey

• Over 22,000 VUAs processed in FY06
• Less than 1 failed MDS (.72)
• Primary reasons - No valid DL, including
  susp/rev - 3 or more moving violations/at
  fault accidents in past 2 years

  FY06 - DOT Monthly report
• Over 9,700 employees disqualified in FY06
• Primary reasons - Miscellaneous
  (employee request, employment status,

  accidents in past 2 years
