• Get a manageable first version of DE running and
  in the public view
• Help to articulate the value of DE and
  place-based applications to the local / global
  community
• Help us identify future needs (gaps) and map out
  the DE Strategic Plan

• A subset of the full DE vision that can be
  rapidly deployed
• Limited number of use cases--implementations that
  appeal directly to specific user communities
• Embrace existing infrastructure, projects,
  applications and data where possible
