6QUOTATION
The dog hasnt come back yet. It is peaceful
without it. My mother rang the police and gave a
description of the dog. She made it sound worse
than it actually is straggly hair over its eyes
and all that. I really think the police have got
better things to do than look for dogs, such as
catching murders. I told my mother this, but she
still rang them. Serve her right if she was
murdered because of the dog.

7Translation
Pes se jete nevrátil. Je tu bez nej klid. Matka
volala policii a nahlásila jim psuv popis.
Reasons for our choice
We have chosen this short text because it gives a
typical example of the style used in this book,
it shows the typical language of the book and the
typical humour. It shows the personality of the
hero and his easy view of the world, too.
8WHAT WE DID NOT KNOW . . .
. . . BEFORE READING THE BOOK
We have discovered that in England it is usual
to organise street parties in case of an
important event connected with national jubilees
or an important moment in the life of queen and
her family ( in the book there was the street
party on the occasion of wedding in the royal
family ).
We have discovered, too, that it is a tradition
that at Christmas children go along streets,
knock on doors, sing Christmas songs and recieve
sweets and money from people.
Finally, we have discovered an important fact
that not every Brit liked the prime minister
Margaret Thatcher a lot of them think that her
reformations diserved the United Kingdom.

11IF I WERE ADRIAN MOLE . . .
Daniela writes If I were Adrian, I would not
think that I am the best at everything. He is
very confident at school. I would not think that
highly of myself, on the contrary I would think
that I am an average person. I would behave
normally and naturally. I would not be worried
about many things. He is worried about what her
family and other people think of him. I would be
cheerful, because people should be happy that
they are healthy and they have friends and
family. I would see the elephant until it is
over.
Lucka writes If I were Adrian Mole, I would
probably do the same as him, because he tries to
do his best, he is sensitive and selfless. He
tries to figure out the global problems and he
hates that somewhere there are peope who are
suffering. Sadly he is not too clever.
12CONCLUSION RECOMMENDATION
We both have found this book very funny and very
nice to read. We cant say it was very easy
English, but we were able to read it without big
difficulties. The language is very nice, using a
lot of slang words, which is a little bit
difficult for us, but very useful. The form of a
diary is nice to read, too, and it gives an
interesting cadence of a plot.
And who of our clasemates would like to read this
book and who probably not? For example Zuzka T.
and tepán B. probably would like this book, but
Matej probably not.
