Why Study Technology

• Technology fills our needs and makes our lives
  more comfortable, healthy, and productive.
• Telephone, television, automobile, refrigeration,
  new medicines etc.
• Technology is responsible for a great deal of the
  progress of the human race.
• To use technology wisely, we must understand what
  it can and cannot do for us.
• Technology causes problems, too, such as
  pollution and crowded highways.

• Agricultural Technology
• Use of farm machines to harvest enough wheat
  quickly
• Medical Technology
• Use of new medicines, devices
• Trepanation
• Manufacturing
• Karl Benz built the first gasoline-driven
  automobile in 1885 in Germany
• Henry Ford built his first car in 1896 and
  founded Ford Motor Company in 1903
• Automobiles are produced at the rate of one per
  minute today

• Energy Sources
• Water wheels provided most of the power in the
  Middle Ages (about 1100 AD)
• Oil, gas, coal and nuclear fuels are used
  generate power today

  telegraph using one wire for each letter
• Satellites are used to bring television signals
  today
• Transportation
• Wright brother flew the first aircraft 852 feet
  in 1903.
• Objects and people are moved between earth and
  space through space shuttles today
