The Past is a Poor Indicator of the Future

• Our imaginations are good, but we are limited by
  our knowledge and experiences.
• The further out in time we try to predict, the
  less reliable that the outcome is similar to what
  we expected.
• We can see near-term consequences of our actions
  fairly well.
• Todays young people are tomorrows leaders, and
  we need to have a voice in this process.

Sustainability Not a New Concept

• Sustainable development is development that
  meets the needs of the present without
  compromising the ability of future generations to
  meet their own needs. Our Common Future, 1987

The Time is Now

• This is the time to take stock of the problems
  created in the past.
• The decisions made today CAN create a sustainable
  future.
• Piecemeal solutions are band-aid approaches
  that wont work we need to apply a universal
  approach.
• Development and sustainable solutions must be
  accomplished as a balanced, complete solution.
